Review: Udo’s Green Blend
August 24th, 2008
Udo is doing something special here. His formulation is made to provide green nutrition and omega-3 fatty acids, while offering some special herbs that help cleanse and rejuvenate the body. His formula is part of a diet and weight loss plan, so it is optimized for this, but it’s a worthwhile formulation to consider, even if your ultimate goal is not weight loss. The main ingredients are the fibers and fillers, which consist of flax, sesame and sunflower seeds (an excellent combination), plus a bit of psyllium husk to help with elimination and colon cleanse. Next are the greens and veggie powders, which include the usual grasses, spirulina and chlorella, plus carrot, tomato, beet, broccoli and kale powders. Special herbs include cinnamon, ginger, bilberry, burdock, ginseng, bee pollen, milk thistle and artichoke leaf, among others. The formulation is very well planned for hunger control and healthy elimination. And the price is right at just $3.70 per ounce.
Compare to Boku Super Food, which has a similar formulation but with less emphasis on weight management (and a higher price tag).

I’m sure this stuff is very good for me, but it made me very nauseous! I drank it with plenty of water, but maybe not enough I cant envisage taking this three times a day! I think its the flax, I have had this reaction to flax before.

Could be flax. Flax meal has a tendency to go rancid because it’s a highly volatile oil and needs to be refrigerated. The flax has to be very fresh and it cannot sit around before formulation. The formulation must also have plenty of anti-oxidants to keep the flax from oxidizing and spoiling. I don’t know how Udo’s Green Blens is processed, so I’m just speaking in general terms. You could contact them and find out how they work with their flax meal. Good luck!
